SOCIAL EXPERIENCE OF A SLAVE

SLAVE EXPERIENCE - GRAY ROPE (Escravo)
A Gray cord is used to symbolise the chain. In this phase, the practitioner is dedicated to freeing their body, sensitising themselves to feel the music, allowing it to share their development with a partner. Through the game they seek to be free. This phase relates the struggle for the liberation of slaves and makes us reflect on the slavery to which we are subjected in
contemporary life.

FUGITIVE EXPERIENCE - GRAY AND BEIGE ROPE (Fugitivo)
In the second phase, moving further away from the prisons of our body, our mind, our emotions and our soul, towards the quilombo of our possibilities, this phase is called the fugitive, relating to the escape route of the slaves towards the quilombos.

QUILOMBOLA EXPERIENCE - BEIGE ROPE
This color represents the rope, the way the slaves of the quilombos usually tied their pants. It is the alternative of rebellion preferred by slaves to conquer freedom, which could be lasting or not. The quilombolas were independent communities, each with its importance and with its very dynamic specialties, of great social and cultural wealth and in some cases they were well structured, politically, economically, and socially, as was the case with “palmeiras”. In this phase, capoeira was one of the necessary weapons for quilombos for their defense. Thus, having already come into contact with the feeling of freedom of their being as a whole and having already discovered in capoeira secrets and mechanisms that will enable them to defend themselves in times of oppression, be it physical, emotional, cultural, psychological or spiritual.

THE LIFE OF A WANDERER - BEIGE AND RED ROPE (Vagante)
This phase represents the moment when the quilombos were destroyed, the blacks who survived wandered through the woods and the surrounding areas, resisting and fleeing possible surprise attacks by the oppressors. For everything they have experienced so far in their learning process, the student already has the emotional and psychological balance necessary to start in the secret of learning self-defence.

LIVING IN FREEDOM - RED ROPE (Liberto)
Color representative of the silk scarf that capoeiristas wore around their necks to protect themselves from cutting the razor. The slave - racist society saw the freedman as ignorant, lazy and disorderly, with a spirit of degenerate morality, consequently this state tolerates and marginalizes the freedman. They became famous as a warrior, participating in malting and contracting as a henchman, the rivalries between capoeira malt were very serious and the confrontations were always bloody, but the grievance with the police was general and much greater and it was not uncommon for someone to die.

TRAINEE EXPERIENCE - RED, GRAY AND BEIGE ROPE (Estagiário)
This phase represents all the phases that you have already gone through. This phase is qualified for the period of liberation of capoeira in the 30s and its institutionality from the 70s. In this phase, the practitioner recycles everything they have learned so far from movements, rhythms, beats, tempo, songs, games, traditions, history and culture of capoeira, and at the same time they delve into learning how to teach what they have learned. You will do an internship within your academy under the supervision of your Teacher or Master.

GRADUATION EXPERIENCE -RED, GRAY, BEIGE AND WHITE ROPE (Formado)
Finishing phase where the student is prepared to conclude their course by graduating in capoeira! With the addition of the white colour as a symbolism of the beginning of their path as a teacher, where the three basic colours remain in their rope to remind them of the history of slavery and the entire process they have gone through, and understand that they are not just learning it, but also learning how to teach.

GRADUATION EXPERIENCE -RED AND WHITE ROPE (Professor)
After going through all the phases demonstrating through attitudes, behaviours and relationship with the practice of capoeira transcends, the physical activity has become an instrument for self-knowledge, the achievement of citizenship, physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual balance. The student is asked by the teacher to prepare an assessment towards the celebration of their autonomy.
The student must, however, have full musical, cultural and foundation domain, in addition to the knowledge and practice of some other popular manifestations that complete and contribution to the capoeirista's athletic, artistic and cultural development.
Having fulfilled these requirements, the time has come to cut the umbilical cord from mother academy and the guard of the master, being born into a heterogeneous world of different styles, techniques and objectives that the student will have to cover on their own account and responsibility, in order to develop their merits and secrets, expanding their knowledge and fulfilling their mission.

MASTER'S GRADUATION - WHITE ROPE (Mestre)
From the moment a teacher forms a student who has learned everything from him since his beginning, on the day of his graduation the teacher who trained him becomes a capoeira master.
